Ottawa Software Solutions was founded in 2023, first under the name "Kalypso Studio". We're based in Ottawa, but the work is remote.

Working principles
These are the commitments that shape an engagement, whatever gets built.
Start from the problem, not the software
The first question is what has to be different when this is finished. Scope, shape, and whether software is even the right answer all follow from it, and none of them are settled before it is.
Show it running, don't describe it
A working slice of the system beats a document describing it. Early delivery is where assumptions get corrected while correcting them is still cheap.
Build it to be handed over
Handover is part of the build, not a phase after it. Documentation, access, and a walkthrough are deliverables, not favours.
What that looks like
In practice
Every engagement is scoped in writing before it starts: a named first milestone, what has to be true for it to count as met, and the price attached to it. You know what you are buying before anyone starts building.
At each milestone you get the software itself, running somewhere you can open and try. Anything that needs to change is cheapest to change at that point, before the rest is built on top of it.
For public-sector work, accessibility and bilingual delivery are part of the build from the first milestone.
